Early one tule fog morning, before the visiting bees venture out from their hives, something from deep within these Matilija poppies begins to stir in anticipation. Slowly as they unfold themselves, invisible wings carry a stream of tempting nectar into the pre-dawn air where it hovers waiting. Meanwhile pistils and stamen stretch and dance warming up for the arrival of their lovers. Can you help me understand from where this mysterious knowledge comes? Just moments before the bees were drawn to the delicacy of these blooms, this digital still life was captured on an Epson V700 Scanner. Only minimal digital darkroom work was done to increase contrast slightly and clean-up the specks of organic matter.
